HI! My name is Malinda Baum, and I am a visual artist that specializes in photography and film for change-making organizations and causes.

An artist, writer, and your guide through one of the most life-changing experiences you will ever have.

My unique professional journey has sharpened my perspective on the human experience, leading to work that I hope will alter people’s perceptions of one another and themselves.

Mother of four. Grandmother to two. Military Spouse. Firefighter Paramedic. Documentarian. Competitive powerlifter. Titles often fail to express the fluidity of the human experience. But I suppose that’s what led me to visual storytelling in the first place.

I have always worked to balance my innate drive toward service, family, and creativity. Pulled toward a greater purpose at 33 years old, I trained as an EMT, later enrolling in the fire academy, and was the first female Firefighter hired in the city I served for 13 years. Before embarking on my own life-changing journey with Cancer.

I spent 13 years in rooms with people suffering from immense trauma and loss. My own Cancer diagnosis in 2008 put me on the other side of service provision, observing how people tiptoe around topics they aren’t equipped to discuss.

These experiences have provided me with a lens that many others cannot see even when standing in the same place.

As a photographer and filmmaker, I strive to help justice-oriented organizations engage others in their work, challenging assumptions, shifting perspective, and encouraging empathy through honest imagery.

When stock images and staged shoots are ineffective at capturing the true impact of their work, I capture a true representation of the issues organizations are fighting for and against.

As a guide and an artist, I walk with others who are on the path that I began in 2008, striving to lead them with tools and techniques that I wish had been given to me when my first steps were taken.

This is the Seasons of Cancer… this is Thriving Creatively!
